Thinking about buying Loona? Before spending several hundred euros on this expressive robotic pet, it is worth understanding the differences between its packages, what the charging dock adds, and how much you should realistically expect from its AI features.

Loona Petbot, developed by KEYi Tech, is a wheeled companion robot designed to move around your home, respond to interactions, play games and display animated expressions. It is more ambitious than a typical desktop robot, but that ambition also brings extra considerations: internet connectivity, maintenance, privacy and long-term software support.

This buying guide is written primarily for European customers. We compare Loona’s main versions, explain the likely costs and help you decide whether it is the right purchase.

For a closer examination of the robot’s features and limitations, read our Loona Robot Review.

Is Loona worth buying? Our quick recommendation

Loona is worth considering if you want an expressive, mobile robotic pet and understand that consumer companion robotics is still developing.

Its strongest attraction is the combination of movement, animated personality and interactive features. Unlike a stationary robot, Loona can move around the floor and engage with its surroundings.

However, it is not a miniature version of a science-fiction robot. Its conversational abilities, navigation and behaviour have limitations, and some features depend on internet-connected services.

We would recommend considering Loona if you:

  • Enjoy experimenting with consumer robotics.
  • Want a robot that can move around rather than remain on a desk.
  • Appreciate animated expressions, games and playful interactions.
  • Are comfortable managing an app, Wi-Fi connection and software updates.
  • Accept that AI features may evolve or change over time.

We would be more cautious if you:

  • Expect consistently natural, human-like conversations.
  • Need a robot that operates entirely offline.
  • Want guaranteed long-term support for every AI feature.
  • Have limited safe floor space.
  • Would struggle with expensive repairs or complicated returns.

For most buyers, Loona Petbot Premium is the sensible starting point, with the charging dock worth considering if you plan to use the robot regularly.

Loona versions explained: Premium, Space Edition and bundles

Loona is sold in several packages. The differences are not always obvious, particularly when product listings include accessories, special designs or promotional names.

The most important distinction is between the robot itself and the accessories included in the package.

Version or package Main attraction Our buying advice
Loona Petbot Premium Standard Loona experience Best starting point for most buyers
Premium with Charging Dock and Game Prop Kit Convenient charging and play accessories Worth considering for regular use
Buzzer Beater or themed bundles Additional themed accessories Choose only if you value the extras
Loona Petbot Space Edition Distinctive design Not the best value for most buyers
Loona Deskmate Separate desktop companion Not a substitute for Petbot

Is Space Edition better than Premium?

Not necessarily.

Space Edition has a distinctive appearance and may include different accessories, but we have not established that it offers a faster processor, better navigation or superior conversational AI.

Do not assume that a higher price automatically means better technology.

If you mainly want the interactive Loona experience, Premium is likely to provide better value.

What about Loona Deskmate?

Loona Deskmate is marketed as a separate desktop product. It should not be confused with Loona Petbot or treated as another cosmetic version of the same wheeled robot.

If your priority is a robot that moves around your home, make sure the product listing specifically refers to Loona Petbot.

How much does Loona cost in Europe?

Loona is a relatively expensive consumer companion robot.

As an approximate buying budget, expect around €450–€800 for Loona Petbot, depending on the edition, regional store, discounts and included accessories.

Official European listings consulted during October 2026 showed Premium at approximately €486–€549 and Space Edition at approximately €749–€799.

These figures are indicative, not fixed prices. Regional offers can change, and the same package may be priced differently across European storefronts.

Before ordering, check:

  • Whether VAT is included.
  • The country from which the robot will ship.
  • Any delivery or import-related charges.
  • Whether the charging dock is included.
  • The identity and location of the seller.
  • The applicable return and warranty conditions.

Our advice: compare the total delivered price, not just the advertised discount.

A slightly more expensive purchase from a reputable EU-based seller may be preferable if it offers clearer returns and after-sales support.

What about customs duties?

EU import rules changed on 1 July 2026.

The European Union introduced a temporary €3 customs duty per item on qualifying low-value consignments worth up to €150 imported from outside the EU. This measure is currently scheduled to apply until 1 July 2028.

However, Loona Petbot normally costs considerably more than €150, so buyers should not assume that this flat-rate rule applies to the robot itself.

For Loona orders shipped from outside the EU, customs duties depend on the product’s classification, value and applicable import rules. Import VAT and customs clearance fees may also apply.

If the robot is already located within the EU when purchased, there are normally no additional import customs formalities for the consumer.

Our advice: before ordering, ask the seller whether the checkout price includes VAT, customs duties and delivery charges. We have not calculated the import costs for a particular Loona shipment.

Is the Loona charging dock worth it?

For regular home use, the charging dock is one of the more useful accessories.

KEYi advertises automatic charging through a dedicated dock. Loona also supports USB-C charging.

The dock can make everyday use more convenient, particularly if you want Loona to move around frequently rather than manually connect it to a charger after each session.

However, automatic docking should not be interpreted as a guarantee that the robot will always navigate successfully back to its charger in every home.

Furniture, obstacles and floor conditions may affect the experience.

Our recommendation: compare the price of Premium with a dock against buying both items separately. We would generally prioritise the dock over decorative accessories.

Does Loona need Wi-Fi?

Yes. Internet connectivity is an important part of the Loona experience.

According to KEYi’s published connectivity documentation, Loona requires Wi-Fi for initial setup. The manufacturer also identifies cloud-based voice recognition through Amazon AWS Lex and connectivity requirements for certain updates and control features.

That means Loona should not be considered a fully offline robot.

Some local interactions may remain available without an internet connection, but the available documentation does not establish that all advertised games, voice features and AI functions will operate offline.

If conversational interaction is one of your main reasons for buying Loona, reliable home Wi-Fi should be considered essential.

Does Loona require an AI subscription?

Loona’s marketing includes conversational AI and other software-driven functions.

However, there is an important difference between a feature being available today and the manufacturer guaranteeing that it will remain available without additional charges throughout the robot’s lifetime.

We have not established a permanent commitment covering the future price and availability of every cloud-based AI feature.

Before buying, check the current terms for the specific functions that interest you, including any usage restrictions or additional fees.

Our advice: do not justify an expensive purchase solely on the assumption that future AI updates will dramatically improve the robot.

Buy it for the capabilities available and documented today.

Will Loona work well in your home?

Loona’s mobility makes it more entertaining than many stationary companions, but it also creates practical limitations.

A small wheeled robot may encounter difficulties with:

  • Thick carpets and rugs.
  • Loose cables.
  • Furniture legs and clutter.
  • Door thresholds.
  • Uneven surfaces.
  • Stairs and unprotected edges.

Loona should not be assumed to have the same navigation capabilities as a high-end robotic vacuum cleaner.

If you live in a crowded apartment or a house with several floors, think about where the robot can safely operate.

For homes with children or pets, supervision is advisable until you understand how Loona behaves in that particular environment.

Privacy: What should you know before buying?

Loona includes cameras, microphones and wireless connectivity.

These technologies support interactive features, but they also introduce privacy considerations that are easy to overlook when watching promotional demonstrations.

KEYi’s connectivity documentation confirms that some voice functionality involves an external cloud service.

Before purchasing, review the current privacy policy and consider:

  • What information is collected by the robot and companion app?
  • Which features process information remotely?
  • Are third-party service providers involved?
  • How long is personal information retained?
  • Can recordings, account information or other stored data be deleted?
  • What happens if the manufacturer changes or discontinues a service?

A connected robot should be evaluated not only as a toy or gadget, but also as a device operating inside your home.

For privacy-conscious households, unclear answers to these questions are a legitimate reason to reconsider the purchase.

Warranty, returns and repairs in Europe

Before buying Loona, check who is selling the robot and which warranty conditions apply.

KEYi advertises a one-year commercial warranty on its official European product listings. Its published warranty policy also describes exclusions, proof-of-purchase requirements and circumstances in which buyers may be responsible for shipping costs.

However, a manufacturer’s commercial warranty is separate from the legal rights available to consumers.

For purchases covered by EU consumer law, new goods generally benefit from a minimum two-year legal guarantee against non-conformity. Qualifying online purchases also generally provide a 14-day withdrawal period, subject to exceptions.

These rights may also apply when a non-EU trader specifically targets EU consumers, although enforcing them internationally can be more difficult.

Is Loona repairable in Europe?

There is some encouraging information here.

Fixit Service advertises authorised warranty and post-warranty repairs for KEYi Tech robots, including Loona, across numerous European countries.

Its published coverage includes Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and several other EU countries.

This is useful evidence of a European repair channel, but it does not establish that every component is readily available or that repairs will be quick or inexpensive.

Before purchasing, confirm whether your chosen seller can arrange service through this network and whether shipping, labour or replacement parts could incur additional costs.

Our advice: keep your invoice and order confirmation, and check the seller’s warranty process before paying.

Where should you buy Loona?

The first place to compare official configurations is the KEYi Robot website.

KEYi has also published warnings about fraudulent websites imitating authorised Loona retailers.

When comparing the official store with marketplaces or European distributors, look beyond the product price.

Check the identity of the actual seller, the shipping origin, return address, warranty arrangements and whether the listing describes a new product with the correct accessories.

A marketplace name alone does not guarantee that every third-party seller offers the same level of support.

Our recommendation: prioritise transparent purchasing conditions and reliable after-sales support over a small saving.

Loona vs Eilik: Which companion robot should you buy?

Loona and Eilik are both expressive companion robots, but they offer different experiences.

Buying priority Better starting point
A robot that moves around the room Loona
A compact desktop companion Eilik
Camera-based interaction Loona
Simpler physical setup Eilik
Lower initial purchase cost Usually Eilik
More ambitious connected AI features Loona
Less concern about floor space Eilik

Loona is the more interesting option if mobility and environmental interaction are essential to you.

Eilik may be the more practical choice if you mainly want expressive animations and playful desktop interactions without paying for a mobile robot.

Neither should be purchased with the expectation of human-level emotional intelligence.

Frequently asked questions about buying Loona

Which Loona version is best?

For most buyers, we recommend starting with Loona Petbot Premium. Consider a package with the charging dock if you expect regular use.

Is Loona Space Edition worth the extra money?

Only if you particularly value its appearance or included accessories. We have not verified a general performance advantage over Premium.

Can Loona talk to you?

KEYi advertises conversational AI features. However, the quality and consistency of conversations should not be confused with human-like understanding.

Does Loona work without Wi-Fi?

Some local behaviours may work, but initial setup and several connected features require Wi-Fi. Do not assume that the complete Loona experience is available offline.

Can Loona charge itself?

KEYi advertises automatic charging through its dedicated dock. Check whether the dock is included with your chosen package.

Does Loona require a monthly subscription?

The current and future terms of specific cloud-based AI services should be checked before purchasing. We have not verified a permanent guarantee that every AI feature will remain free indefinitely.

Is Loona suitable for children?

Loona is marketed partly towards families, but suitability depends on age, supervision, the home environment and the manufacturer’s current safety guidance.

Is Loona better than Eilik?

It depends on what you want. Loona offers mobility and more ambitious connected features. Eilik is generally a simpler and more affordable desktop companion.

Can Loona replace a real pet?

No. Loona can provide entertainment and interactive companionship, but it does not replace the emotional relationship or responsibilities associated with a living animal.

Final verdict: Which Loona should you buy in 2026?

For most European buyers, Loona Petbot Premium offers the most sensible starting point. A package with the charging dock may be worth the additional cost if you intend to use the robot frequently.

We would not pay a substantial premium for Space Edition or themed accessories unless their appearance or included extras genuinely matter to you.

Loona is an appealing example of modern companion robotics, particularly for people interested in expressive machines that can move and interact with their surroundings.

But it remains an expensive, connected electronic product with limitations in AI and navigation, uncertainty about repair costs, and dependence on long-term software support.

If you are comfortable with those compromises, Loona could be an enjoyable addition to your home. If you expect reliable human-like conversation, guaranteed future AI improvements or completely independent offline operation, it may be better to wait.

Buy Loona for what it can offer today, not for what you hope it might become tomorrow.
